Mom's Heavenly Chocolate Pie Recipe

Ingredients:
1 - 9 inch pie crust

Pie Filling:
2 egg yolks (save egg whites)
2 cups milk
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 stick butter
6 tsp cocoa
 
Topping:
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
4 tbsp sugar


Directions:
Heat oven to 400 Degrees.

Filling
Combine all ingredients for filling in a sauce pan. Cook until it starts to thicken. Pour into raw piecrust & bake until crust is golden brown.

Topping
Beat egg whites at room temperature. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cream of tartar and 4 tbsp sugar. Beat until it peaks. Spread on top of hot pie and place back into the oven until golden brown.
